Stuff: Tune Ruhrpott
If you have to ask "Why?", then you're not going to understand the answer.
The Tune Ruhrpott coffee mug is the unofficial weight weenie's holy grail. Yes it's every bit an extravagance, but it is actually functional. Its simple specs are a 270 gram cup and saucer that fits 420ml (about 2 cups) of your favourite brew. It's made from 3k weave carbon fibre and finished in high gloss with silver painted trim. The cup has the Tune black forest logo and the center of the saucer sports the Tune scripted logo. The current design has changed since the first sighting of the on Bike Rumour back in 2013. Personally I prefer the updated logo treatment.
Does anyone really need a carbon fiber mug? No, probably not. Would any carbon fiber fan love a carbon fiber mug? Heck ya. I was lucky enough to receive one as a gift from some very special friends in celebration of a milestone birthday. And frankly, I love it. Thanks Blacksmith Cycle!
Does the Tune Rohrpott work well? Happy to say it does. The ample sized mug holds enough for a good caffeine charge to start the day. But it's oversized shape does allow the contents to cool quickly. So drink up quickly. I was worried that the high gloss finish on the carbon would make the mug slippery on the saucer but so far it hasn't been an issue. The high gloss finish is also surprisingly durable and shows no signs of wear after a month of use. It still looks brand new.
There is one warning to be headed. If you want to reheat your brew, don't put the Tune Rohrpott in the microwave. Carbon fiber and resin don't do so well in there.
If you're looking for one, check your local Tune retailer or Tune order online through Fairwheel Bikes. Before you click that link, let me forewarn you to be sitting down. The retail on this mug is $220USD.
